Blurb:

The penniless in Blackbridge have only two choices: Sell the body or sell the soul. And thanks to Eda Shaw, business is booming.

Indentured to a capricious demon known as Mr. Night, Eda and her brothers arrange illicit Pacts on his behalf, luring the city's most desperate into trading years of their lives for their deepest desires. When a Pact goes awry and her brothers are arrested, Eda realizes she’ll need an infernal ally of her own: Kit'rath, an infuriating demon with a curious penchant for humanity and the only being in Blackbridge that Mr. Night seems to fear. As they race to rescue her family and save the city from ruin, an undeniable connection sparks between mortal and demon.

But Kit's help doesn’t come cheap. Now, Eda risks losing her heart to the one who claims her years—and saving herself may prove the steepest cost of all.

My thoughts:

First, I must mention that I love that exquisite cover! The colours and subtle details I noticed after finishing the book are so lovely💜. The story is told from a single POV, which is our main FMC.

Eda and her two brothers run an antique shop that was their parents' legacy. But behind that facade, they are forced to keep a secret that could get them hanged.

After their father made a pact with a powerful demon, the same burden falls on their shoulders to fulfil, as he doesn't have enough years to bargain with. After his passing, they continue to deliver people willing to make a pact in exchange for years of their lives, and when they are close to fulfilling their father's deal, something goes terribly wrong, shifting their world on its axis.

I love how the story pushes the main characters and their values and integrity at almost every turn — will they choose the easier path, looking out for themselves and running away, or risk everything for the sake of those they love or the place they live?

That is exactly what I loved about Eda and her character development because, initially, she wanted to act selfishly and disregard everything else.

Somewhere along the way, without realising it, her view shifted little by little, and the most fascinating thing was that she also changed everyone around her, pushing them to take action.

Fast-paced with many intriguing side characters, I think I loved her brother Ben for being the rock of their family, and Robin for her colourful, creative, and wise character the most.

I really enjoyed this story.
