My thoughts:
I really enjoyed the previous books in the series, so I was a bit anxious about picking up *Shadow and Son*. I was so happy it delivered—and then some!
The pacing felt so natural and flowed perfectly for me, and the multiple POVs made it even more interesting and immersive, giving you a wider scope.
The tone and emotional impact of this book are darker and heavier, but we still have those moments of levity to balance things along the way.
What shone brightest for me was Elyria's character arc and growth, and her relationship with Cedric.
The way she dealt with her struggles and pain while still holding on to her caring, soft side just squeezed my heart with all kinds of emotions. It was heartwarming to see her vulnerable side, and not only her tough warrior exterior.
Her connection with Cedric became even deeper, and the way he gave her space to process and breathe while still being her pillar when needed was just beautifully done.
Furthermore, the way he made her consent his priority was a top-tier green flag, and I loved it! I love him even more!
The final battle was epic, and although some twists were predictable, they didn't diminish the high stakes, tension, and intensity of this grand moment.
I really enjoyed the whole journey, and I’m glad I picked up this series!
