Blurb:

The skae have emerged.

Once thought to be little more than myth, the creatures of shadow now spread across Zapour, conquering kingdoms and driving humanity to the brink of extinction.

Raiz Glaive has spent his life fighting monsters. Now King of Trost, he must unite old enemies and fractured nations against a foe unlike any he has ever faced. But not all monsters wear the faces he expected.

Isha Glaive has become a symbol of hope in an age of fear, but even hope has limits. As war spreads across the continent, she discovers that the line between light and shadow is far thinner than anyone imagined.

The war for Zapour has begun. Ancient powers awaken. Alliances will be tested. Sacrifices will be demanded.

And in the shadows, a Queen waits.

My thoughts:

What a journey! So many threads and so much character growth, and you can look back and see how different they are from the people who started that long path in book one.

One particular moment that stuck with me and was eye-opening was what Raiz has managed to do. Like him, I was absolutely speechless that I hadn’t realised it sooner, being busy following all the turbulence and emotions flying around.

Furthermore, the way he managed to achieve that as a leader was so different, and it was impressive.

I think Haze was the most impressive new character for me, and I loved the way he challenged the beliefs of both sides—humans and skae—while, without realising it, playing a vital part as a bridge or glue that shortened the gap between the warring sides with his craving for knowledge and peace.

The pacing and spaciousness of the final battle were done brilliantly!

Every detail and every strategy was meticulously thought through, with the perfect amount of respite and breathing room to raise the tension and stakes even higher.

And because it's the conclusion of a series, I also want to mention that I loved how each book had a solid and consistent feel to the world and characters, while at the same time having its own distinctive vibe that I loved.

So, so happy that I went on this journey 💜
