Blurb:
She’s the weapon no one saw coming.
Wren has always known the cost of survival. Hidden away by her elven father, she was trained to fight. Trained to flee. Trained to vanish.
When he’s murdered, she follows his final order—burn everything and run.
But she is thrust into a world she was never prepared to face—and entangled in the return of the forest demons, creatures of earth and soul thought lost to time. She has dreamed of them. She can sense them. And when she begins to destroy them, something inside her starts to change.
As kings and councils hunt for answers, and enemies seek to claim her power, Wren is swept into a storm of suspicion and ancient rivalries—caught between shifting alliances and magic no one fully understands but all seek to control. Because the demons aren’t just rising.
They’re calling to her.
And when her blood calls to the forest—and the forest calls back—Wren must confront a truth she was never meant to find.
Something old is waking.
And it knows her name.
My thoughts:
A Bird Among Wolves was a wonderful read that I devoured in two days.
I loved how, right from the start, we jumped straight into the action amid multiple POVs, which we have to piece together to understand what is happening, and I loved that!
We have our main female character, Wren, running away and hiding as her father taught her before he was killed. Soon, she faces an impossible choice: continue hiding or expose herself to protect someone she cares about deeply.
Along the way, she realises that her father's death has left her with many unanswered questions she needs to unravel, but doing so can be deadly.
In her tumultuous journey, she ends up in the most unexpected place - under the wing of the Brotherhood. A band of warriors holding their own secret.
As I mentioned, the whole story is told through multiple POVS, which makes it even more interesting and broadens your view of the events.
Intriguing characters with their own fascinating backstories that shaped who they are today.
I loved Wren and how she adapted to a world she wasn't used to after being shielded all her life, but the characters that intrigued me most were Arlon, Ze'v, and Elias.
Arlon because of his steady, loyal vibe- I'd really like to see more of him in the next book❤️ (I'd love to see a face-off between him and Randon about Wren😁🙈).
Ze'v because, like Wren, he's somewhat an outcast and doesn't quite fit anywhere, and I loved how they bonded over that.
And Elias because I feel he is closer to me- a quiet, cunning rebel with a vibe of an aristocrat.
The only thing I wish is that we had more questions answered throughout the journey, but still, I'm intrigued, and I hope they'll be addressed in the next book. I'll definitely pick up the next one with interest.
